West Branch’s Got Talent was a super fun fundraising event we held in May, giving students k-12 a chance to audition, perform, and be critiqued by top notch judges.

This year’s judges included Jeff Emerich, Wes Habley, and Nathan Shivers.Their bios are listed below;

Jeff Emrich

Jeff Emrich


Jeff Emrich has been a judge with the Iowa High School Speech Association for 25 years. He has worked on-stage with the Iowa City Community Theatre (most recently – Theophilus North) and City Circle Theatre Company (Sweeney Todd and 1776). He has also appeared in TV commercials (McDonald’s, Betty Crocker), print ads (Pella Windows, Wells Fargo), training videos and student films. When not on-stage, Jeff is the Associate Director of Pre-Clinical Curriculum at the Carver College of Medicine.

Wes Habley

Wes Habley


For the last decade, Wes Habley has been active in area community theatres serving as a musical director and pit musician. Recent shows include Oliver and 1776 at City Circle Acting Company in Coralville and Damn Yankees at the Iowa City Community Theatre.
He loves all forms of music and plays in the Iowa City Community Band, the Czech Plus Polka Band, Dixieland and German bands as well as instrumental ensembles at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

Nathan Shivers

Nathan Shivers


Nathan Shivers is in his ninth year of teaching and fifth year at West Liberty High School. He graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School, earned a B.S in Music Education at Kentucky Christian University and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Kent State University. At WLHS, Mr. Shivers is the director of three curricular choirs, show choir, show band, Vocal Harmony and the bi-annual Fall Musical.

Our Emcee this year was Sophmore Trevor Thein! Trevor is a student at West Branch High School and a supporter of Hannah’s Musical Hope. Trevor is involved in the school’s show choir program. Outside of music Trevor is a golfer, coach, and great student.

In 2016 we had 14 contestants ranging from 3rd – 12th grade. Everyone did a great job performing! Our grand champ was flautist, Maggie Wilson. In our k-6 division 3rd place went to Jonah Baylor, Joesph Hiethoff, and Laikyn Worrell, 2nd place to Eleanor Lindhorst, and 1st went to Summer Saylor! In our 7-12 division Barrett Walsh received 3rd place, Sarah Sheer 2nd, and Maggie Wilson landed the first place trophy! Congrats to all contestants and many thanks for participating in our first ever talent show. We could not be proud to see each and every one of you perform on stage.
